The traditional method of fiber coloring is to dye loose fibers, yarns, fabrics and other forms with dyes, but polypropylene due to its non-polar structure, the general common dyes almost can not be dyed on it. Therefore, commercially available polypropylene fiber fabrics, in addition to the use of modified polypropylene, generally use the original liquid coloring method to produce colored polypropylene.
Polypropylene pre-spinning liquid coloring process has three. The first is the polypropylene powder and pigment additives powder mixing, extrusion granulation, and then extrusion spinning; or directly into the extruder spinning. The second is to add polypropylene particles with powdered pigments or concentrated masterbatches by extrusion granulation and then extrusion spinning. The third is the polypropylene particles and masterbatches in the spinning machine screw extruder for mixed spinning. The masterbatch method of producing colored polypropylene fibers has the advantages of good dyeing fastness and resistance to washing, low cost, and little environmental pollution, etc. It is the main method used to produce colored fibers by primary coloring, but it is suitable for mass production, and there are disadvantages such as color is not bright, trouble to change color, etc. It is difficult to adapt to the rapid change of color needs of clothing and other industries.
